Essex Court Chambers hires new barrister

Wee is a member of the Bar of England and Wales, with experience in civil fraud and asset recovery, banking and finance, insolvency, and arbitration.

Essex Court Chambers has announced the appointment of Paul CK Wee as a barrister at the chambers.

Wee specialises in commercial litigation, international commercial arbitration and investor-state arbitration.

His core areas of practice are civil fraud and asset recovery, banking and finance, insolvency, arbitration, and related court proceedings concerning the setting-aside or enforcement of arbitral awards.

In addition to being a member of the Bar of England and Wales, Wee has also been called to the Bar of the British Virgin Islands in 2014, and granted rights of audience before the AIFC Court in 2019.

Joe Smouha QC and Huw Davies QC, joint heads of Chambers, said: “We are delighted to welcome Paul Wee as a tenant of chambers. Paul has developed an impressive commercial chancery practice gaining extensive experience in civil fraud and asset recovery in addition to arbitration and public international law.

“His incisive advocacy and outstanding drafting skills are already well-known to members of chambers who have worked with him and who will welcome the further opportunities to do so.”

Joe Ferrigno, senior clerk, said: “Paul will be a valuable addition to our capacity in these key areas of chambers’ practice, where we have seen continued significant growth. This is a tremendous opportunity for Chambers to add further to our first-rate junior team and bolster the ranks of our Band 1 global civil fraud practice.”

Wee added: “I am delighted to have joined Essex Court Chambers today, where I look forward to continuing to develop my civil fraud, arbitration and public international law practice. I have appeared with, against and before barristers from Essex Court Chambers and I look forward to joining them as a colleague.”
