Gray’s Inn has presented Barbara Dohmann QC with a Silver Griffin to commemorate her reaching 50 years at the Bar.
Now at Blackstone Chambers, Dohmann remains one of the UK’s leading commercial silks, with a particular focus on international arbitration.
Dohmann was one of the first two women at the commercial bar to be awarded silk. She was also the first woman to chair the Commercial Bar Association (COMBAR), the first to sit as a deputy High Court judge in the Commercial Court and is also believed to be the first woman barrister to appear in the Commercial Court.
In addition, Dohmann is Master of the Bench of Gray’s Inn, received an Outstanding Achievement Award from Legal 500 in 2020, and a Chambers and Partners Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.
She has been an LCIA, ICC, ICSID, HKIAC, LME and ad hoc Arbitrator under UNCITRAL Rules, and is chairman of the IAC in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. She was also a judge of the International Commercial Court in Qatar between 2007 and 2017.
