Foot Anstey names Martin Hirst managing partner

Hirst’s appointment has been made as part of the group’s succession plan, which sees John Westwell step down from the role before retiring on 30 April 2023

National law firm Foot Anstey has named Martin Hirst as the group’s new managing partner, effective 30 April 2022.

Hirst’s appointment has been made as part of the group’s succession plan, which sees John Westwell step down from the role before retiring on 30 April 2023.

The next seven months will act as a handover period to “ensure a seamless transition”, at the group, with Westwell then continuing as a partner and board member until his retirement.

Westwood said that the decision to retire at the end of FY23 will support a “smoother succession path” for Hirst to lead on “both the design and delivery” of the firm’s next four-year strategic period.

He added: “Martin receives my very full support and I will be working closely with him during this period of handover and will support him as a board member until the end of this strategic planning period.”

Also a member of the Foot Anstey board, Hirst currently leads the firm’s 120-lawyer-strong real estate arm.

He added: “It’s a great honour to be entrusted by the board with the leadership of a firm with such a unique and strong culture, exceptional people, and ambition for growth.”
