The Queen has appointed Nassera Patel of No5 Barristers’ Chambers to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Robert Buckland QC MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.
Patel will be addressed as Her Honour Judge Patel in her new role. The Lord Chief Justice has deployed her to the Midland Circuit with effect from 6 September 2021, where she will be based at Lincoln and Nottingham.
She was first called to the Bar in 1999 and during this period specialised in public law proceedings involving representation of local authorities, parents and children in care cases.
In 2019, she was appointed as a Fee-paid Judge of the First-Tier Tribunal in the HESC Chambers.
Commenting on her appointment, Patel said: “I feel very honoured and privileged to be appointed as a Family Circuit Judge. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a family law barrister. I have risen to the challenge and demands of being a busy family law practitioner and having a family.
“I am also very grateful to No5 and all those that have supported me in my practice. However, now is the time to move on and look forward to fulfilling the responsibilities bestowed upon me by such a wonderful appointment.”
