Law firm Reeds Solicitors LLP (Reeds) has promoted criminal lawyer Mark Abbott to partner with effect from 1 January 2022.
Abbott joined Reeds in 2016 as a solicitor and Crown Court litigator from Blaser and Mills LLP where he had been a partner and head of the crime practice. As an accredited and experienced court and police station duty solicitor, the firm said his “vast experience” includes representing clients charged with some of the most serious, high profile and complex cases.
He was individually selected to represent a number of those arrested under Operation Elveden and Operation Weeting, including a News International editor charged in connection with Operation Elveden.
He also represented the defendant in the country’s first double-jeopardy re-trial for murder, and also represented suspects accused of terrorism offences. Though based primarily in London, Abbott is often instructed by clients across the UK.
Jan Matthews, managing partner at Reeds Solicitor, said: “Mark is a true asset to the complex crime team at Reeds Solicitors. He works tirelessly to ensure the very best outcomes for his clients in some of the most difficult and challenging circumstances. We are thrilled that he has accepted a role in the firm’s partnership and look forward to continuing our work together.”
Abbott added: “Being made partner at Reeds is a proud moment. To be welcomed into the partnership is an exciting opportunity and. I look forward to many more years working on high profile and complex client work as well as now assisting the firm with its continuous progression and development, including the expansion of the Complex Crime department into the Midlands.”
