Law Society: UK Bill of Rights ‘weakens rights for everyone’

Part of the Bill aims to Establish the primacy of UK case law, clarifying there is no requirement to follow the Strasbourg case law and that UK Courts cannot interpret rights in a more expansive manner than the Strasbourg Court

The Law Society has claimed that the government’s new UK Bill of Rights as outlined in the Queen’s Speech could mean “weakened rights for everyone” and that it could “undermine the UK’s international reputation for justice and fairness”.
