Probate fees set for price hike this month

A spokesman for the Ministry of Justice told Which that following the new fees, ‘every penny’ would go towards the cost of processing applications

The current probate fee system is set to be replaced by a fixed flat fee of £273 from 26 January, as part of the government’s effort to raise an extra £20m a year.

Currently, the public must either pay £155 to use a probate professional or £215 if they decide to apply themselves.
