Courts to work at full capacity for second year running

After the cap on sitting days was lifted last year, nearly 17,000 more days were sat in the Crown Court than the year prior to the pandemic

Courts are set to continue working at full capacity in a bid to speed up the justice system, as the cap on sitting days has been lifted for the second year running.

The Ministry of Justice said this investment will allow for more trials to take place, delivering “swifter justice” for victims whilst reducing the backlog of cases, which rose “significantly” over the course of the pandemic.
